Saying Goodbye, Knowing Your Blessings

Last summer
my aunt and grandma entered palliative care within a week of each other
we said goodbye to them each within a week of each other
it was horrible and tough and sucked

This fall
we say goodbye to my Great Uncle Hollingshead
we say goodbye to our relative Lawrence Sanborn
we pray as my grandpa enters quadruple bypass surgery
we know that the hard times
help us help others
we know that the hard times
will make us stronger in the end
we know God is in this
and will see us through to the end

I say to you
live now
you only pass this way once
and while it seems obvious
it's not about welled-up emotion
it's about living
each day
well

love now

Give Us Clean Hands

God, give us clean hands
we are so poor in our riches
we don't even see it
you were right when you talked through Amos
You've given it all to us
all we need to live
and we're blowing it

Give us clean hands
Give us pure hearts
Let us not lift our souls to another

We are weak
and we are soooo not getting it
We really need Your strength
to be a generation that seeks Your face
seeks to be Your face
to multiple generations in need of You

It's not just a catchy tune
or phrase
Let us not lift our souls to another
Give us clean hands
Give us pure hearts
Help us be You
to everyone in need

I hope, I want

I hope I can be the person Jesus hopes I'll be
I want to be better than I am
When I interact with anyone
I would like to get it right
so you come away
feeling, knowing God loves you

I would like to be sure
I spend the rest of my time on this planet
doing good
doing right
loving & caring for others

There are times
I want to step away from it all
to figure out where to go next
and I realize
I can't run from what's around me
a short respite, sure
but any longer
and I risk being a runner
it's always easier when you're away
to think you can do a better job
it's harder to live it out

I really can't live the way the world lives
That's not why I gave my life up
to just become wishy-washy
and reduced to saying I'm a Christian without living it
to be ok with the life of North America, western world, whatever you want to call it that I live in every day

I see this video
and it reminds me to live my life
doing the best that I can to make
the world a better place
because we're not home yet

Beyond Tired

Ever been so tired you can't think straight?
Ever been so tired like that every day?
Ever really wanted a break, just to sleep, but you know what keeps you sane in the interim is
showing up to Bible study
showing up to church
showing up with friends who can pray for you
But you are oh so tired and really just need
a place
to rest?

I'm
totally
there

The Kingdom of God is like...

The kingdom of God is like a man who finds a treasure in a field, so he goes out, sells all he has, and buys the field.

Check out this true life story about a baseball player.

And if you're in Christ, you know you bought an even better field than the baseball player.

Awesome, isn't it? :)
